Avianca Vuela Visa® Card Review
The Avianca Vuela Visa® Card is an exceptional airline reward credit card from Banco Popular de Puerto Rico. The card, co-branded with Colombian airline giant Avianca, earns LifeMiles with every purchase. LifeMiles are the currency of the Avianca family of airlines and are applicable towards flights with both Avianca and its affiliated airlines, as well as with Star Alliance carrier airlines, including Air Canada, United Airlines, All Nippon Airlines, Lufthansa, and more.
Earning and Using Your LifeMiles
One of the great things about LifeMiles is their easy transferability across Star Alliance members. This transferability is one of the reasons why the Vuela Visa Card is so exceptional, with one of the other being the superb earning potential of the card. The card earns 3 miles for every dollar spent on flight tickets purchased directly from Avianca, 2 miles for every dollar spent at gas stations and grocery stores, and one mile for every dollar spent on all other eligible purchases. Cardholders also receive a 15% discount should they use their card to purchase additional LifeMiles.
LifeMiles expire after 12 months of inactivity. However, for Avianca Vuela Visa cardholders, the LifeMiles expiration date is extended to 24 months. Only earning miles will extend the expiration date of your miles. So cardholders will want to use their cards regularly to maintain their LifeMiles balance. Fortunately, however, the Vuela Visa Card gives you plenty of reason to use it all the time. Beyond the mile-earning potential, the card offers a 50% discount on award tickets when cardholders make $12,000 in purchases in a calendar year, and another 50% discount should yearly spending exceed $24,000. Card holders also benefit from free additional checked baggage when traveling between the United States and Central America.
Should You Apply for the Avianca Vuela® Visa Card?
