The Hilton Honors loyalty program just lost some value. The program recently removed 11 transfer partners, including major airlines like Frontier, LATAM, Avianca, and Alaska Airlines. Here is what you need to know about the Hilton Honors transfer partner removals, which were made without warning earlier this month.
Hilton Honors Removes Multiple Transfer Partners
Hilton has dropped 11 transfer partners from its Hilton Honors loyalty program. The changes to the Hilton Honors program are effective June 15, 2021 and were made with no forward notice to existing program members.
According to a notice on the loyalty program’s transfer points page, members can no longer transfer Honors points to the following (former) transfer partners:
- Amtrak
- Aeroflot
- Alaska Airlines
- Avianca
- Finnair
- Frontier Airlines
- Garuda Indonesia
- Hawaiian Airlines
- LATAM
- Philippine Airlines
- South African Airlines
The loss of nearly a dozen transfer partners (including ten airlines and Amtrak) impacts the value of Hilton Honors points. The removal also reduces the transfer options for members, with 13 remaining carriers, including:
- Aeromexico
- All Nippon Airways
- Asiana Airlines
- British Airways
- Cathay Pacific
- Delta
- Etihad
- Malaysian Airlines
- Qatar Airlines
- Qantas
- United Airlines
- Virgin
How to Redeem Hilton Honors Points
Transferring Hilton Honors points to other programs (especially frequent flyer programs) offers one of the lowest redemption methods for points. This redemption method offers lower value than using points towards free nights with the 15 brands that make up the Hilton Worldwide Holdings portfolio.
While Hilton claims that reward nights start as low as 5,000 points, most free nights usually cost between 30,000 and 40,000 points. Hilton points currently have an approximate value of 0.06 cents/point, which is on the lower end of the hotel rewards points scale. This valuation places an award night at around $225 to $240 in points.
