In-Depth Review: Citi Rewards+® Card
The Citi Rewards+® Card adds to Citi’s lineup of ThankYou® rewards credit cards, fitting below the Premier℠ Card. The Rewards+ specializes in both gas and grocery purchases, offering double rewards with no annual fee.
Who Can Benefit from the Rewards+ Card?
Are you someone who loves to be rewarded for your everyday purchases?
If so, the Citi Rewards+® Card might be the perfect fit for you. This credit card is designed to offer maximum benefits to those who frequently use their card for everyday expenses. Whether you’re a frequent traveler, a shopaholic, or someone who enjoys earning rewards, the Citi Rewards+® Card has something to offer everyone.
How to Get the Card
To be eligible for the Citi Rewards+ credit card, it is generally recommended to have a good to excellent credit score.
A great feature of Citi credit cards is the ability to pre-qualify before applying. This pre-screening process only applies to Citi’s proprietary rewards cards, including the Citi® Rewards+ Card.
These offers are based on credit score, borrowing history, and other readily available personal information. If you receive a pre-qualified offer, your chances of approval are generally favorable. Even better, there is no credit check needed to pre-qualify with Citi.
Balance Transfer Intro APR Benefit
The Citi Rewards+ credit card packs a hefty amount of benefits for a $0 annual fee. For example, new Rewards+ cardholders enjoy 0% Intro APR for 15 months on purchases and balance transfers, followed by a competitive APR after that, which varies depending on creditworthiness and the Prime Rate.
That welcome offer is robust, competitive, and in line with other Citi credit card offers, making it a great option to consider if you already have an existing card balance you want to pay down over 15 months.
Keep in mind, however, that balance transfers must be completed within four months of account opening – and come with a balance transfer fee of $5 or 3% of the amount of each credit card balance transfer, whichever is greater.
How to Earn Rewards
20,000 Thank You Point Welcome Offer
The Citi Rewards+® Card also comes with a variety of excellent bonus offers. New accounts earn 20,000 bonus points after spending $1,500 within the first three months of account opening. That ThankYou points bonus is redeemable for up to $200 in gift cards.
Earn Thank You® Points On Every Purchase
Like other Citi proprietary credit cards, the Citi Rewards+® Card earns Thank You® Points on all eligible purchases. This rewards tally breaks down as follows”
- Earn 5X points per $1 spent on hotel, car rentals, and attractions booked on the Citi Travel℠portal through June 30, 2024.
- Earn 2X points at supermarkets and gas stationsfor the first $6,000 spent per year (and 1X after that), and
- 1X points on all other purchases
ThankYou® Points don’t expire, and there’s no limit on the number of points you can earn.
Points Round-Up
However, with the Citi Rewards+® Card, you’ll frequently earn additional points thanks to its most noteworthy feature: Every purchase rounds up to the nearest 10 points. For instance, if you make a $2 purchase, the card will round up your 2 points to 10. If you make a $52 purchase, your 52 points will round up to 60. So while you can use the card for any purchase, the rounding perk is most effective when you keep your shopping small and frequent.
Plus, there is no cap to how many times your points are rounded up.
How to Redeem ThankYou Points
You can redeem your stash of ThankYou® Points for gift cards, statement credits, travel bookings, and online shopping at merchants like Amazon and Best Buy. If you hit 100,000 accumulated points within a year, you’ll receive 10% back on all your redemptions. This bonus repeats each year that you reach the goal.
It’s worth noting that the Rewards+ Card earns “basic” Thank You points since it does not charge an annual fee. Because of this, you can’t transfer your Thank You points to a Citi transfer partner.

What We Like About the Card
Points Round-Up
One of the best features of this card is the rounding up of rewards, as it allows you to maximize your earnings on every purchase. Additionally, the 10% points back benefit when redeeming points is a great way to get even more value from your rewards.
Things to Consider
Basic Vs. Premium Thank You Points
It’s important to note that the Citi Rewards+ card only accrues “basic” ThankYou points, not regular Citi ThankYou points. Although basic ThankYou points are not officially recognized as an award currency by Citi, it’s helpful to understand the distinction between the two types of ThankYou points.
The main difference is that basic ThankYou points cannot be transferred to most Citi travel partners, which is usually a more valuable redemption option unless you also have a premium Citi card. However, you can still transfer your basic ThankYou points to the JetBlue, Choice Rewards, and Wyndham Rewards programs at ratios ranging from 1:0.8 to 1:1.5, depending on the program. Additionally, you can book travel through Citi at a 1 cent per point or take advantage of the other redemption options mentioned above.
Foreign Transaction Fee
downside of the Citi Rewards+® Card is the foreign transaction fee. If you frequently travel abroad or make purchases in foreign currencies, this fee can add up quickly and diminish the value of your rewards. It’s important to weigh the benefits against the potential costs before deciding if this card is right for you.

Should You Apply for the Citi Rewards+® Card?
There’s plenty to take advantage of with the Citi Rewards+® Card, and it’ll cost you nothing, as the card has no annual fee. Consider taking it with you abroad, though, because you will have to pay foreign transaction fees. In such a case, it’ll be smarter to opt for a travel card. As an everyday payment option, though – especially for small-time acquisitions – you’ll see your points count go up in a hurry and be able to redeem them before you realize.
