Ink Business Cash® Credit Card Review

Chase’s Ink Business Cash® Credit Card draws eyes with its cash back reward perks. This business card from JP Morgan Chase provides up to 5% cash back on purchases, complimentary employee cards at no cost, and more – for no annual fee.

Who is the Ink Business Cash for?

Chase offers a range of Ink business credit cards for all spend types. So, why should you opt for the Ink Cash?

The Ink Business Cash is the ideal cash back card for companies that spend heavily in select categories and already have another unlimited cash back card to cover everyday purchases. That’s because the Cash provides an impressive 5% back on office supplies and select wireless carrier services. And, while the 5% back bonus categories are capped at the first $25,000 spent in combined purchases, it still offers up to $1,250 per year in cash back just in those two categories alone.

Additionally, the card provides extra bonus cash back categories, including 5% back on Lyft rides (for a limited time), and 2% back on the first $25,000 spent in combined purchases at gas stations and restaurants.

Combining the Ink Cash with an unlimited cash back card, like the Ink Business Unlimited®, can help accelerate the cash back even further. The Unlimited earns an unlimited 1.5% back on all purchases, meaning this one-two punch could potentially provide enhanced rewards no matter what the business world throws at you.

Ink Cash Rewards Guide

Limited-Time Welcome Offer

Chase Ink Business cards are known for their generous welcome offers – and the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card is no different. New accounts earn a $350 bonus cash back after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first three (3) months from account opening. That welcome offer is substantial – but easy enough to reach for companies that plan on issuing multiple employee cards (additional employee cards are free of charge).

How to Earn Cash Back with the Ink Cash

The Ink Business Cash® Credit Card earns impressive cash back rewards on every eligible purchase in select categories:

  • 5% cash back on the first $25,000 spent in combined purchases at office supply stores and on internet, cable, and phone services each account anniversary year
  • 5% cash back on qualifying Lyft products and services purchased through the Lyft mobile (through 03/2025)
  • 2% cash back on the first $25,000 spent in combined purchases at gas stations and restaurants each account anniversary year
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases–with no limit to the amount you can earn

Cash Back Categories Explained

Not every office supply or phone purchase qualifies for 5% cash back. Like other issuers, Chase uses Merchant Category Codes (MCCs) to help merchants classify their services best. Here are the limitations and exclusions for the “office supply” and “internet, cable, and phone services” categories:

Office Supply Stores

The “office supplies” category does not include merchants who sell a diverse range of general products, such as discount stores, department stores, or electronics stores. It also does not include merchants and wholesale distributors specializing in a limited selection of larger office supplies, such as computer software and hardware, office furniture, photocopiers, and office equipment, even if they also sell smaller office supplies.

Internet, Cable, and Phone Services

Only purchases made for internet, cable, satellite TV and radio, cellular, wireless data, and landline services will be eligible for the 5% back bonus. The purchase of internet, phone, or other equipment is not included. If you buy or pay for your internet, cable, satellite TV, phone, or any related services in a store not categorized by the merchant under the relevant services category, the purchase or payment will not be considered eligible. For instance, if you make phone bill payments in a store that is classified as a telephone equipment store.

How to Redeem Cash Back

How you redeem your cash back with the Ink Business Cash® depends on your existing banking relationship with Chase. If you only have the Ink Business Cash®, your only award options are cash back, gift cards, statement credits, Amazon’s Pay with Points, and other select retailers.

Chase cash back credit cards offer greater versatility than other cash back credit cards from larger banks – especially when paired with a Chase Sapphire or Ink Preferred card account. That’s because eligible Chase Sapphire credit cards pair with the Ink Business cards to provide even greater value through additional redemption options.

The Chase Ultimate Rewards portal lets cardmembers use points (1X UR points = 1% cash back) to book travel, shop through the Ultimate Rewards portal, purchase gift cards, make donations, or transfer points to over a dozen leading loyalty programs from airlines and hotels.

Ink Cash Benefits

0% Intro APR

The Ink Business Cash® Credit Card is worth considering for its attractive 12-month 0% APR introductory period. Large or numerous expenses requiring multiple payments will benefit most from this incentive as it provides a stress-free full year of no interest.

Complimentary Employee Cards

If you have multiple employees who will require additional cards issued, Chase conveniently allows you to set individual spending limits so you can stay on top of your business expenses. Remember that the 5% cash back category is capped at $25,000 per year across the account and not for each authorized cardholder.

Visa Signature Business Protections

The card also offers a suite of business protection and monitoring tools. Even better, the card has no annual fee. Chase business credit cards also offer the usual Visa Signature protections, like fraud protection, numerous security options and offers, and more.

What We Like About the Ink Cash

The Ink Business Cash Card offers an impressive welcome package, starting with a 0% APR on purchases for 12 months. Additionally, cardholders can earn a generous $350 cash back bonus after meeting the minimum spending requirements within a specified time frame. These perks are standard for all Ink cards and make it an excellent choice for businesses of all sizes looking for a reliable rewards card without any hidden fees.

Additionally, the cash back rewards with the card are rich – albeit capped. However, the 5% and 2% cash reward categories with the Ink Cash are lucrative, especially when paired with an unlimited cash back card or another Chase Ink offer.

Things to Consider

Despite all the good, there are still things to consider before applying for the Chase Ink Business Cash Card.

Capped Rewards

The rewards are capped at $25,000 in joint spending across the two bonus tiers. Accounts earn 5% back on the first $25,000 spent in combined purchases at office supply stores and on internet, cable, and phone services each year and 2% back on the first $25,000 spent in combined purchases at gas stations and restaurants each year.

That cap seems high – but not so if you own or run a medium-sized company and plan to issue multiple employee cards across multiple offices. In that scenario, your rewards run dry very quickly.

Foreign Transaction Fee

This is a gripe with most of the Chase business cards, but the 3% foreign transaction fee with Ink Cash significantly impacts the card’s performance overseas. There are plenty of no-annual-fee business cards that offer no foreign transaction fees, so carefully consider how much emphasis your spending will have on international transactions.

Chase Ink FAQs

  • Data suggests that Chase uses Experian for credit checks.

Chase Ratings

How does the Ink Business Cash Visa Signature stack up? Here are a selection of expert reviews for the card, as well as an overview of JP Morgan Chase as a bank:

Should You Apply for the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card?

Overall, the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card from Chase is an excellent cash back card for companies that don’t want to pay an annual fee but still want to earn impressive rewards. The enhanced cash back categories with the card are sure to be a hit with owners and financial managers alike, as is the relatively easy-to-achieve $350 cash back sign-up bonus.

The Chase Ultimate Rewards portal is one of the best loyalty programs available, so those cash back rewards will have significant value when used for options other than cash back. This is especially true for travel. But, since the card is a cash back card, most businesses will likely stick to this option. Even here, however, they’ll get exceptional value.
