Six Flags® Rewards Visa Card Review
The Six Flags® Rewards Visa is a unique rewards credit card from Six Flags, one of the country’s leading theme park brands, and Credit One Bank. The card earns accelerated rewards for purchases at the park, plus gas, groceries, and hotels, plus additional savings with select merchants.
How to Earn Rewards
The Six Flags® Rewards Visa from Credit One is a theme park rewards card that provides significant value in the categories that matter most to Six Flags fans. The card earns 3X points on eligible purchases at 24 Six Flag locations in the United States. Those parks include:
- Six Flags America, Baltimore/Washington DC
- Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Vallejo
- Six Flags Fiesta Texas, San Antonio
- Six Flags Great Adventure, New Jersey
- Six Flags Great America, Chicago
- Six Flags Magic Mountain, Los Angeles
- Six Flags Mexico, Mexico City
- Six Flags New England, Springfield, MA
- Six Flags Over Georgia, Atlanta
- Six Flags Over Texas, Arlington, between Dallas and Ft. Worth
- Six Flags St. Louis
- The Great Escape, Lake George, NY
“Eligible purchases” include parking at U.S. locations, admission, merchandise purchases, stays at the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge, dining in the park, and website purchases. Ineligible purchases (which earn a single point per dollar spent) include Six Flag purchases made through third-party sites (such as Expedia, Trivago, etc.), ride photo purchases (sorry), or purchases made at Six Flags locations outside the United States – such as La Ronde Park in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
The card also earns 2X points on gas station, grocery store, and eligible hotel/lodging purchases, and a single point on all other purchases. While the wording of “lodgings” is confusing, don’t worry: it applies to the usual hotel stays, including hotels, motels, inns, bed and breakfasts, and resorts.
How to Redeem Points
Points earned through the card are redeemable for Six Flags products and services as rewards vouchers. Rewards vouchers. These vouchers take the form of a rewards email with a barcode that holders can scan at participating Six Flags theme and water parks for savings, discounts, or free admission (depending on the value). Points never expire if the card account is open and active.
Variable Annual Fees
One of the great features of Credit One is that the bank offers credit cards to a wide array of credit scores. Because of this, Credit One offers its Six Flags® Rewards Visa with different annual fees.
Average credit scores can expect an annual fee of $39, which is very reasonable for the Six Flags enthusiast that wants to earn additional rewards at their favorite parks. On the other hand, applicants with excellent credit can expect no annual fee – an even better treat.
Above Average Interest Rates
Credit One is a bank that specializes in helping people rebuild their credit scores. The Six Flags® Rewards Visa Card, while a new offering from a brand refresh, is no different. The card features an above-average APR of around 23% variable.
Credit One also doesn’t allow balance transfers, which generally would be a negative. However, given the high interest rates, that is a positive. Paying your monthly statement in full is an excellent habit to get into.
Other Card Features
- Visa Zero Fraud Liability
- Free online access to your Experian credit score each month
- Up to 10% cash back with select retailers
- Easy-to-use mobile app
Should You Apply for the Six Flags® Rewards Visa Card?
The Six Flags® Rewards Visa Card from Credit One is a unique rewards card that offers similar features to Chase’s Disney® Premier Visa® Card. In addition, the card offers 2% in Disney Rewards Dollars on gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and most Disney locations – for a $49 annual fee.
The Six Flags Card is an improvement on the premium version of Chase’s Disney Card in many ways. There are many more Six Flags locations in the United States than Disney parks, meaning the card has much greater value for the frequent theme park-goer. Additionally, the card earns more rewards at those parks than the Disney Card does at its related parks, making it a great option for those with good credit – and an even better option for those with average credit who might not always have access to lucrative rewards credit cards.
Ultimately, the Six Flags® Rewards Visa Card from Credit One is a great theme park credit card at a very respectable price point. So, if you love theme parks and want to enjoy quality savings on your next visit, this Credit One card offer might be the perfect fit.
