The Key Rewards Visa Signature Card Review

The Key Rewards Visa Signature is a cash back rewards credit card that unlocks savings at seven brands in the Williams Sonoma portfolio. The card offers up to 5% back on select purchases, a double cash back welcome bonus for new account holders, and more – all for no annual fee.

Earn Up to 5% Cash Back with Seven Leading Brands

The Key Rewards Visa offers its greatest rewards with the Williams Sonoma family’s seven brands. The card earns 5% cash back on purchases at the following retailers, both online and in-store:

Williams Sonoma Williams Sonoma Home Pottery Barn Pottery Barn Kids
Pottery Barn Teens Mark & Graham West Elm

Double Rewards for the First 30 Days

New accounts with the Key Rewards visa Signature also enjoy a special introductory bonus of 10% back across seven brands for their first 30 days from account opening. That 10% back is effectively double the cash back for the first month, making the card a solid option for Pottery Barn, West Elm, or Williams Sonoma customers planning on making a significant purchase after opening an account.

Earn 4% Back on Dining and Groceries

The Key Rewards Visa Signature is more than just a glorified store card, however. The card also earns impressive cash back on everyday categories that will help provide additional savings into the future.

Cardholders earn a huge 4% cash back on groceries and dining purchases, with all other purchases earning a base rate of 1% back. Keep in mind that the 4% back on dining does not include fast food, but does include food delivery services like GrubHub, Uber Eats, DoorDash, and more. This delivery inclusion acts as a side door into fast food at 4% back, so excluding fast food from the 4% back category isn’t too distressing.

Apply for the Store Card, too.

What’s interesting about the Key Rewards credit cards from Capital One is that each option has two versions whether the West Elm, Pottery Barn, or Willaims Sonoma, Capital One offers both closed-loop and open-loop versions of its credit cards.

So, what’s the difference? A closed-loop credit card only works for purchases at the particular brand of families, meaning you can use the card to buy items in-person or online with any Williams Sonoma brand – but nowhere else. This credit card type is commonly known as a “store card.” The Visa versions of the cards are known as open-looped, meaning you can use them to make purchases anywhere in the world Visa is accepted.

So what does this mean for you? Essentially, when you apply for a Williams Sonoma branded Visa credit card from Capital One, you are also applying for the closed-loop store card version. Store cards typically have lower credit requirements than traditional credit cards, making them a great bet if you are newish to unsecured credit.

How to Redeem Cash Back Rewards with the Key Rewards Visa Signature

If the cash back rewards with the Kew Rewards Card from Capital One are impressive, the redemption options are rather uninspired. The only redemption option for cash back is a reward certificate, redeemable in $20 denominations.

Every $20 of Rewards cardholders earn will receive a $20 rewards certificate following 30 days. These rewards are sent automatically and apply only to future purchases with the card or member account at all Williams-Sonoma brands.

While the lack of redemption options might be frustrating, the card offers significant value for those who prioritize savings with a particular brand but don’t want the closed-loop hassle that comes from a  store card.

Special Williams Sonoma Benefits and Savings

The Key Rewards Card also comes with a suite of special perks for cardholders, including special promotional financing. Cardholders enjoy 12-month promotional financing on $750 or more purchases with the seven brands in the Williams Sonoma portfolio. However, any purchases that are made using the promotional financing option do not earn cash back rewards – something to keep in mind.

Cardholders also enjoy free standard shipping on Williams Sonoma purchases and earn a $25 birthday reward via email on their birthday.

Other notable features of the card include no annual fee plus Visa benefits and protections like:

Zero Fraud Liability Cardholder Inquiry Services Emergency Card Replacement Luxury Hotel Collection Extended Warranty Coverage
Roadside Dispatch Lost/Stolen Card Reporting ID Navigator from Norton Travel & Emergency Assistance

Capital One Ratings

How is Capital One a credit card issuer? Here is a selection of reviews for the bank from consumers and experts alike:

Should You Apply for the Key Rewards Visa Signature Card from Capital One?

Overall, there is a lot to love about the Key Rewards Visa Signature Card. The cash back rewards with the card are generous for brand-loyal customers, as is the 10% back with Williams Sonoma for the first 30 days. Add to that 4% back on groceries and dining, and you have an everyday credit card that helps offset Pottery Barn, West Elm, and Williams Sonoma purchases.

The card does have its drawbacks, however. There is no foreign transaction fee listed, meaning you likely can’t use the card for making purchases abroad. Similarly, the reward structure is limited to only reward certificates with Williams Sonoma companies.

Still, the card more than holds up to scrutiny – with many more pros than cons. Are you looking for a versatile retail card with a decent APR and excellent rewards earning potential? The Key Rewards Visa Signature Card might just be the card for you.
