In-Depth Review: World of Hyatt Business Credit Card

The World of Hyatt Business Card offers small-to-medium-sized (SMB) businesses the chance to maximize their savings when sending employees on business travel. The card features a $199 annual fee, earns an impressive amount of World of Hyatt points with every purchase, offers World of Hyatt elite tier status, and more.

Who Is the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card for?

The World of Hyatt Business Credit Card is unique in its spending categories, making it an ideal credit card for companies that may prioritize travel rewards but also want to ensure they get the most bang for their buck. That card’s spending categories, including airfare, gas stations, and dining, also include business essentials, like shipping, social media marketing, and office supplies.

So, who is this card for? Essentially, if you oversee a company that frequently sends employees on travel, this might be the card for you. While the best benefits are capped to a select amount of cardholders, those benefits are exceptional and can make life on the road a breeze for critical employees.

How to Apply

Credit Score Requirements

The World of Hyatt Business Card is a premium rewards card for small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs). Business cards of this type typically require either “good” or “excellent” credit when applying.  Chase uses the applicant’s personal credit score while applying, so make sure to double-check your credit health before applying.

Application Requirements

Chase requires the following information when applying for a business credit card:

  • Legal name of the business
  • “Doing Business As” (DBA) name, if different from legal name
  • Business type (LLC, sole proprietorship, etc.)
  • Years in business
  • Number of employees
  • Company address
  • Business contact information (phone, email)
  • Revenue information

Welcome Offer Points Bonus

The card also comes with a lucrative welcome offer. New World of Hyatt Business Cardholders can earn 60,000 World of Hyatt points after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first three months of opening an account.

According to Hyatt, that points tally is good for up to 15 nights in Chicago at the Hyatt House Hotel or three nights at the Andaz Mayakoba Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Regardless of where companies plan to spend their points, the introductory offer provides value that can help offset multiple nights when employees stay overnight on business.

How to Earn Rewards

As a credit card in the World of Hyatt loyalty program, the Hyatt Business Card provides its highest point potential on Hyatt stays. Businesses earn up to 9X points on stays at Hyatt hotels, participating Small Luxury Hotels of the World, participating Exhale locations, and eligible Lindblad Expeditions. This 9X tally breaks down as 4X points per $1 spent with the card, plus 5X base points as a World of Hyatt member.

Here’s a list of Hyatt brands eligible for the 9X points:

Park Hyatt® Hyatt Hyatt House Thompson Hotels
Miraval Hyatt Ziva Hyatt Residence Club Hyatt Centric
Grand Hyatt Hyatt Zilara Andaz Destination Hotels
Hyatt Regency Hyatt Place Alila Joie de Vivre Hotels and Resorts

The World of Hyatt Business Card also earns 2X points in various categories. First, the card earns 2X points per dollar spent on fitness club and gym memberships. Second, businesses earn 2X points on the top three spending categories each quarter (through the end of 2024). These bonus categories include:

  • Airline tickets, when purchased directly with the airline
  • Car rentals
  • Dining
  • Gas stations
  • Internet, cable, and phone service providers
  • Local transit and commuting
  • Social media marketing and search engine advertising

All other purchases with the card earn a single World of Hyatt base point for every dollar spent. World of Hyatt points do not expire, provided the account is active and in good standing. However, remember that points will be forfeited should the account be inactive for 24 months.

How to Redeem Hyatt Points

Businesses redeem World of Hyatt points easily through award nights with participating properties.

Hotel award night rates vary depending on the category of the property, the date of the booking, and the location of the hotel or resort. Free nights in the program are bookable either with Points or a combination of Points + Cash.

  • Points: Points bookings start as low as 5,000 for standard rooms to 10,000 points for premium suites with Category 1 hotels, and up to 40,000 points per night for Category 8 properties. For example, the Hyatt House Hotel in Chicago is a Category 1 property, while the Andaz Mayakoba Resort is a Category 6 resort.
  • Points + Cash: Points + Cash bookings provide greater flexibility, with as few as 2,500 points plus 50% of the standard rate required to book a standard room in a Category 1 property.

Hyatt members can transfer points to approximately 30 transfer partners, including major names like Air France, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, Etihad, Southwest Airlines, United, and more. These partners offer a transfer ratio of approximately 2.5 Hyatt points to one partner mile/points.

What We Like About the Card

Hyatt Credits

The World of Hyatt card provides up to $100 Hyatt credit every anniversary year as a card member. Just spend $50 or more at any Hyatt property, and you’ll receive a $50 statement credit up to twice every anniversary year. That bonus is lucrative and can go a long way to making your next Hyatt stay much more enjoyable.

Elite Tier Status

Beyond resort credits and bonus points, the card provides elite tier status for the primary account holder and up to five (5) employees. Enjoy immediate World of Hyatt Discoverist status for as long as you’re a cardmember, with the option to boost the elite status of up to five employees – a great treat for road-weary employees or even a gift for those who go that extra mile.

With Discounts through the Hyatt Leverage program, companies can receive up to 15% off standard room rates at participating Hyatt hotels.

Free Employee Cards

Like other Chase co-branded business cards, the World of Hyatt Business Card provides additional employee cards at no additional cost.

Things to Consider

Limited Tier Benefits for All

The ability to provide Discoverist status for up to six cardholders is nice but reduces the value other employees will get from the card. Essentially, other employees are making purchases that accelerate the tier status of others, with little reward for them. Fortunately, those card members can at least use the impressive Visa Signature protections the card provides.

Chase Ratings

How does the World of Hyatt Card stack up? Here are a selection of expert reviews for the card, as well as an overview of JP Morgan Chase as a bank:

Should You Apply for the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card?

The World of Hyatt Business Credit Card is an impressive hotel regards card for companies that frequently send employees on business trips and want to maximize their savings. The card’s 75,000-point welcome offer is very impressive – as are the up to 9X points the card earns on Hyatt stays.

The 2X point categories also provide excellent value, with the 2X points on your top three spending categories each quarter being very enticing. Unfortunately, that offer is set to expire at the end of 2022, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it was extended should the card prove successful.

The addition of Discoverist elite status is another nice perk. While that tier doesn’t provide upgrades or other luxury perks, it provides extra comfort for road-weary business travelers. Ultimately, the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card offers quality and value for its $199 annual fee.
